Walks Program January to March 2019

6th  GRADE 3 KURINGAI CHASE NP - MT. COLAH TO ST. IVES CHASE via Kalkari Lookout, Bobbin Head and the Warrimoo Trail to St Ives. All on track with 1 steep climb, 12klm with good shade and hopefully a breeze off the water.


6th  GRADE 5 WYONG RIVER TRIBUTARY BELOW NULL ROAD. Exploratory creek walk Maps: Morisset & Dooralong. Possible wet feet.


13th  GRADE 2 WOLLSTONECRAFT TO  WAVERTON. Rainforest, in Sydney? Yes, Berry Island, Balls Head and the new Coal Loader Platform. All on paths and tracks. Map: Sydney Harbour Walks.


13th  GRADE 5 REVISIT CREEK BESIDE HEATON LOOKOUT. Entry by Great North Walk. Map:  Quorrobolong 


20th  GRADE 2/3 BAR BEACH TO GLENROCK Walk south along Bather's Way to Merewether Beach and then uphill to enter Glenrock State Conservation area. Take tracks through Glenrock and then return via Burwood Beach and around rock shelf to Merewether Baths for optional swim and/or ice cream. Distance will depend on weather but about 10 kms. 20th  GRADE 5 SP EXPLORATORY WALK, off track


27th  GRADE 2/3 COMO TO OATLEY PARK Walk to Oatley Park via Como to Oatley cycleway.  Explore trails and boardwalks of the Oatley Park and surrounding bush areas. Swim at Jewfish Bay in swimming enclosure if desired. Approx 12 km, elevation less than 200m. Street walking, shared cycleway, paved and unpaved bush trails, boardwalks and wetlands. 27th  GRADE 5 SANDY KNOB CREEK/UNDER CLIFF NEAR SANDY KNOB TRAIL. Explore creek then cliff to return via Sandy Knob Trail. Map: Morisset


2nd  GRADE 3 CHATSWOOD TO MIDDLE HARBOUR  Pleasant walk through bush to harbour backwaters.. Map: Sydney Train Walks

9th  GRADE 5 DOUGLAS PT CREEK NEAR DOUGLAS POINT RD, down creek under Douglas Point then up Stump and Tree Point track. Steep, rocky, undulating off track. Map: Morisset


16th  GRADE 3 COASTAL BUSH LOOP, MURRAYS BEACH, Caves Beach, Catherine Hill Bay, Nords Wharf.  No beach walking, some steep sections.  14 klm. 


16th  GRADE 5 CRAYFISH PT  CREEK NEAR CRAYFISH POINT RD, down creek to Watagan Creek then up Farrell’s Rd. Steep, rocky, undulating off track. Map: Morisset.


2rd 3 GRADE 2/3 VALENTINE TO GREEN POINT & RETURN. Approx 10 klms some ascent passing through shaded tracks to Green Point and following lake shore track on return.


23rd  GRADE 5 WARRAWOLONG CREEK,  steep, rocky, undulating off track. Map: Morisset

17th  ROPE DAY Practice your abseiling skills.


21st  BIKE RIDE GOSFORD TO PEARL BEACH RTN (Thursday) All on cycleways or quiet backstreets to Ocean Beach and then around headland (some bike walking here) or ride over Mt Ettalong to Pearl Beach. Possibility for a swim if good weather  Return. Approx 40 kms

6th  GRADE 5 WHIRLEYS PINCH down creek, steep (rope assist?), rocky and undulating off track. Map Morisset.


13th  GRADE 2/3 SYDNEY URBAN TRAILS #9 Surry Hills Explore the history and very diverse suburb of The Harp in the South fame. Distance up to 10km. Ascent approx 100m (it is Surry Hills!). Walking on pavements.


13th  GRADE 4 CREEKS AROUND BOARDING HOUSE DAM Walk beside and in a pretty creek in the area. On tracks and off track sections. Map: Qblg


20th  GRADE 3/4 ROCKY PONDS Walk to beautiful rock pools on Tank Ck with views to Hawkesbury area

27th  GRADE 3 CARDIFF RAIL STATION TO NEWCASTLE INTERCHANGE A long walk via Charlestown and through Great North Walk.

2nd  GRADE 3 WATAGAN STATE FOREST Section of GNW from Basin campsite to Walkers Ridge Road/Murrays Forest Rd intersection. 12 kms steep climb (500m) all on track but some narrow sections. Mostly shaded forest. Car shuttle required. .


2nd  GRADE 5 CONGEWAI CREEK OFF TURNER RD Exploratory creek walk Map: Quorrobolong


9th  GRADE 3/4 LAMBTON TO MCGREGOR PK/WEST JESMOND PK & RTN (while we still can) - Old growth and regenerated bushland, including most of proposed inner city by-pass missing link. Passes several 19th/early 20th century coal mining sites, railways and tramway routes - including Lambton Colliery pit head & shafts, Glen Lewis/Nellie's Glen and Elermore Colliery & an early to mid 20th century shanty town and 2-up school, & walk into Brickworks Park. Short sections of off-track/gully/creek walking. Approx 15km, Total height gain ~ 200m.




16th  GRADE 3/4 LACE CAVES Walk to interesting rock formations off GNW Map: Broken Bay.


23rd  GRADE 3 GIRRAKOOL TO WONDABYNE  Train travel. Walk via Piles Ck, Scopas Peak & Kariong Falls to Wondabyne. 9km, 400m ascent. Catch train back from Wondabyne station. Map: Gosford

30th  GRADE 3/4 DEVINES HILL GREG DEVINE'S HILL AND FINCH'S LINE CIRCUIT Historic remnants of the Old Great North Road and some stunning views. 650 metres ascent and descent. 13 km circuit

3rd  CANOE SUNDAY KAYAK Sunshine, depending on weather kayak Sugar Bay & Bardens Bay  or Bonnells Bay..


8th  MALAITA POINT ABSEIL (Friday) 6 abseils near Scenic Railway Katoomba.


10th-14th  NAMADGI NP, ACT, CAR CAMP Walk to ruins of space station, laser station, Honeysuckle Ck, Yankee Hat aboriginal paintings. 3 day car camp mid week. ening)  SLIDES A JOURNEY IN SCANDINAVIA. HARWOOD LOCKTON. BOLTON PT COMMUNITY HALL 68A Middle Pt Rd, Bolton Pt, at 7.30 p.m.


26th-30th  (Tuesday Saturday)

CAR CAMP - CANOEING AND WALKING - LOWER COLO AREA – Camp two days at Wheeney Creek and do G4/G5 day walk upstream on Wednesday. On Thursday morning drive over to Upper Colo Reserve for two nights and two day canoeing in the Colo River. Camping fees apply in the Upper Colo Reserve ($11 per night if booked on line or $13 if you pay the ranger on site) to pay go to Hawkesbury City Council web page.


30th  10th  APRIL CYCLING GOLD COAST AND BRISBANE VALLEY RAIL TRAIL 8 days Sections of the Coastal Cycle Path between Surfers Paradise and Pottsville for 3 days. Stay at  caravan park . Then BVRT for 5 day, choice of accommodation –Ride only suitable for mountain bikes or hybrids. Not a sealed surface.

2nd  GRADE 3 MAITLAND BAY CIRCUIT Map: Broken Bay. Beautiful coast walk, approximately 12 kilometre with LOTS of steps! Possible swim.


2nd  GRADE 5 SP EXPLORATORY WALK, off track BOOK with coordinator to obtain venue, meeting place & time.


9th  GRADE  2 DORA CREEK Lovely shady walk along the creek also including some of Lake Eraring. Mostly on foreshore reserve and approximately 11 kms return.

16th  GRADE 3 BOUDDI NATIONAL PARK Bullimah Spur, Maitland Bay, Gerrin Point and Putty Beach. Beautiful coastal walk, 3 swimming spots. Track and beach walking, undulating with a steep climb out from Putty Beach. Map: Broken Bay.


16th  GRADE 5 SP EXPLORATORY WALK, off track BOOK with coordinator to obtain venue, meeting place & time.


23rd  GRADE 2/3 ERARING TO WANGI 10 kms. Leisurely walk on lakeside, bush tracks, parkland and short street section. Bring lunch or enjoy a Specials Lunch ($10) at Wangi Workers Club, “the club with a view”.  Swimming and paddling possible. Return to Eraring.


23rd  GRADE 5 WATAGANS WALK Exploratory off track walk.


30th  GRADE 3 FINGAL SPIT AND ISLAND Walk through pleasant coastal forest to Box Beach and around the point (some rocks) to cross Fingal Spit (alternative walk will be provided if the Spit is closed).  Explore the island with its lighthouse and history. Bring swimmers. 8-10 km.


30th   GRADE 5 BANGALOW CREEK Exploratory walk at Mount Sugarloaf.. Map: Wallsend.

5th  GRADE 3  LAKE MACQUARIE ART TRAIL Belmont- Speers Pt New lakeside feature


5th  GRADE 5 PATONGA COAST WALK AND UNDERCLIFF Explore creek, rocks and undercliff near Dark Corner, Patonga. Rock Scrambling; bring swimmers. Map: Broken Bay.


12th  GRADE 3 ROCKY CROSSING, BARRINGTON TOPS N.P. Pleasant walk in the shade of the rainforest trees on a hot day. Drive to the top road shelter and walk down the track to the pool and cascades at Rocky Crossing for a swim. Climb back up for a short distance to track junction, then follow main track to National Parks Shelter for afternoon tea, stopping to swim at the Pool of Reflections, Lion Rock and the Crystal Pool. Drivers shuttled by leader back to cars.


12th  GRADE 5 WATAGANS CREEK WALK Exploratory off track walk. From Gap Creek Falls car park and follow the creek up. Map: Morisset.


19th  GRADE 3 SWANSEA CIRCUIT Lakeside foreshore walk.


26th  GRADE 3 FISHERMANS BAY TO ONE MILE RETURN A pretty coastal walk. 10-12 km. Bring swimmers.


26th  GRADE 5 SP EXPLORATORY WALK, off track BOOK with coordinator to obtain venue, meeting place & time.



8th-10th  PATERSON GORGE PACKWALK. Beech forest to Paterson River. Exploratory walk on Mount Paterson to look for Giant Stinging Tree then creek walk to Paterson Gorge.
